• We have different categories of ethernet cables, each one has its own specification based on bandwidth and frequency range, which are as follows:
     1. Category 3
     2. Category 5
     3. Category 5e
     4. Category 6
     5. Category 6a
     6. Category 7

The following table will give the details about the categories of cables.
  • Now let see about category-5 cable. Category-5 cable(cat 5) is the most  common type of cord used for wiring computers together in a network. Cat 5 cables are readily available in various finished lengths.
Let us see the process of crimping a cat 5 cable
     Procedure:
     - Step 1: Strip the cable
  • Take your crimping tool and strip off around 2-3 inches of the outer jacket from each end of the cable. The crimping tool will have a section with a razor blade and enough clearance to cut through the jacket but not the wires on the inside.
  • Place the cable in this slot, gently squeeze the crimping tool, and rotate it to cut all the way around the jacket.
Now, you can pull off the jacket to expose the smaller wires inside.
     - Step 2: Arrange the cables
  • After strip, you find a wires. Now untwist them, there you will see 4 pair of wires by untwisting you will see 8 wires, arrange them in a same order on both sides.

   - Step 3: Crimp
  • Insert the colored wires into the cat 5 cable. Check whether all the colors has been placed in the right slot and push with a force to check all the wires are touched the end of the connector.
  • Then insert the plug into the crimp tool and squeeze.

Test the cable if desired:
  • If you have a cable testing tool, insert the finished cable into the tester and check for the signal in it.
The following is the testing tool which is of sender device and receiver device.
Testing Tool
Insert the cable ends in the specified place for testing.
Check the signals in the device which shows that the cable is working properly.
Movement of signal in TX and RX shows that cable is working

Signal movement in sender and receiver device shows that cable is working
